THREE VERY UNIQUE EVENTS WRAPPED INTO ONE
For those of you who are craving something out of the ordinary to do on a Saturday night, we have the scoop on three very different events that might be just what you are looking for. The best part is, you only have to go to one place. The Creative Instinct Warehouse will be presenting a night of madness and mayhem, the likes of which have never been seen before. Not around here anyway. So open your mind and prepare to journey into the unknown.
The evening kicks off with your hosts Baron, El Sapo and Mittens unleashing "The Incredibly Strange Trailer Show", a collection of horror, schlock and exploitation movie trailers that you just aren't going to see in regular theatres. Put together by local film guru John R. Hand, this compilation of wacky, weird and just plain gross teasers is sure to excite all the B-movie junkies lurking around Pensacola. Our good friends from the Silver Screen are known for bringing quality underground entertainment to the local masses and are super excited to share these clips with the rest of the sickos out there. We know what you're thinking, "this sounds great, right?" But wait, there's more.
After seeing the ads for all of your new favorite movies, get ready to have your mind blown by a legend of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, as C. Martin Croker (Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Aqua Teen Hunger Force) breaks into his personal collection of 16mm film to bring you "Bizarro Saturday Morning." Enjoy rare and unseen cartoon jewels from iconic animators like Bob Clampett, Max Fleischer and the eclectic Ralph Bakshi while listening to Croker explain some of the back stories and ideas behind them.
"I've been collecting these films for ages, like pre-beta, and I found a lot of things that weren't aired on regular television, and I always wondered why people weren't allowed to see these things." explains Croker. "So I put together a little show to present these rare cartoons, shows and advertisements that never made it out to see the light of day. Apparently, someone saw my show and liked it, as I was invited to Pensacola for this event."
Croker will also be giving a lecture and fielding questions from the audience, so don't be shy to ask if you are confused by anything.
"I'm shooting for around two, two and a half hours of mind-bending wackiness. I try to have these things all planned out before hand, but usually just end up showing whatever I think feels right. You never know what I might throw from one moment to the next. This is the first time that I've done it in this type of event setting, but it sounds fun and I hope we get a good turnout."
You'll laugh, you'll cry and somebody will probably puke, but the night will be far from over at that point. Once all the wackiness of Croker's cartoon show is over, the real craziness begins.
Just when you thought that one night couldn't get any stranger, New Orleans-based mad scientists of rock, The Consortium of Genius, take the stage to warp your mind beyond repair.
"These guys are absolutely nuts," says promoter Mike Ensley. "You're not going to see another band like this. Their drummer is a robot. That alone is worth coming out to see. Who doesnt like robots?"
Pogo the night away as you get swept into the dust cloud of styles that this mondo trio blast out. No genre is safe as these dudes dish out a little something for everybody, with their own special twist.
As if their music wasn't wacky and wild enough, The Consortium of Genius are all about audience participation, having been known to occasionally bring an unsuspecting insubordinate from the crowd to perform an impromptu onstage lobotomy.
Pair that up with whatever trippy visuals that flash on the projection screen behind them and you got yourself an experience that you won't be able to forget, no matter how hard you try (unless you're the one with the lobotomy). Reach into your inner weirdo and don't be afraid to walk the line that borders on the insane, because this isn't going to be your run-of-the-mill night out.
