Trolleys Introduce Historic Tour Guides
The Arts Council of Northwest Florida will showcase more than 40 participating merchants and artists on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 2008's fourth Gallery Night from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. On the same night, the City of Pensacola will host the second in their public concert series "Live At Five" with Katie Rogers and her band rocking Romano Street from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. And with Canstruction and trolley tour guides from West Florida Historic Preservation in the mix, downtown Pensacola promises great art, great music, and a great time for the whole family. All events are free.
Leave your car in one of the complimentary parking spaces in the Baylen Street garage at Government Street or the Baylen Street parking lot at Romana Street and stroll through an eclectic array of galleries, merchants, and cafes featuring great local art and great local artists. Catch hometown favorite Katie Rogers croon country's music hottest tunes (preview her on myspace) before hopping a trolley to one of the eight Canstruction sites in three Gallery Night districts. Students from West Florida Historic Preservation will be calling out the stops along with some of Pensacola's more interesting historical notes from 450 colorful years. Free parking is also available at Ever'Man's Natural Foods Co-Op at 315 West Garden Street, 600 South at 600 South Palafox Street, Artel Gallery at 505 Adams Street, and the Belmont Arts Center at 401 North Reus Street, Two trolleys will be circulating with stops directly in front of each of these locations, so hop on and enjoy the ride.

Gallery Night is produced by The Arts Council of Northwest Florida and will be sponsored by Cat Country, 98.7; 1620 News Radio; Downtown Improvement Board; Downtown Arts District Association (DADA); Downtown Crowd; and Sandy Sansing BMW.
Canstruction is a design/build competition currently held in cities throughout North America. Teams of architects and engineers compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food. Each of the eight competition sites will be open for public viewing beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 3. Canstruction, sponsored by the Northwest Florida chapter of the American Institute of Architecture and The Arts Council of Northwest Florida, is a benefit for Manna Food Pantries. Collection boxes will be available at each site for visitors wishing to donate canned goods to Manna Food Pantries. www.mannafoodpantries.org.
"First Friday - Live After Five" is one of several new initiatives highlighting the entertainment and shopping venues downtown Pensacola has to offer presented by the Community Redevelopment Agency. Created in 1980, the CRA guides Downtown Pensacola's development and renovation through the reinvestment of taxes generated within the district. It is comprised of the 10 City Council members and a citizenry determined to revitalize the historic waterfront and inner city neighborhoods extending south from Cervantes Street to the waterfront and bounded by "A" Street on the west and 17th Avenue on the east.
GALLERY NIGHT PARTICIPANTS:
1. African American Heritage Society, 200 E. Church St. 469-1299: The African American Heritage Society will host a reception celebrating African American heritage and culture in Northwest Florida with the release of Images in Black, Part II. Images in Black, Part II examines the question of change in the status of blacks in Pensacola over the forty years since the end of the civil rights era. Please drop by for refreshments and see our exhibit the African Presence in the Americas from 1492-1992.
2. Art Praha, 124 Palafox Pl., 602-7052: New Comer! Come see this new venue with imported European products and distinctive fine art by the artist Jy. He specializes in painting, photography, jewelry, crystal and pottery.
3. Artel Gallery, 505 Adams St., 432-3080: CANSTRUCTION SITE! Artel Gallery presents "Transparent". Also Artel Gallery is hosting one of the nine Canstruction building teams. Artel is a not-for-profit educational gallery.
4. Belmont Arts and Cultural Center, 401 N. Reus St. 429-1222: CANSTRUCTION SITE! We will have demos in glass blowing, glass bead making and pottery. We may also have a couple of print artists displaying their works as well.
5. Blue Morning Gallery 112 S. Palafox Pl., 429-9100: Once again Blue Morning Gallery will be offering the latest in beautiful, one of a kind jewelry art. There will be an array of designs featuring pearls, crystals, hand blown

glass, polymer clay creations, one a kind bead work, and antique findings, as well as hand made sterling creations.
6. Corner Market, 508 W. Gregory St., 912-8640: New Comer! Come in and enjoy exciting art exhibits by prominent local artist and listen to live entertainment in the beautiful garden sitting area. Special one of a kind jewelry creations by Ann Tutt from Pine Mountain Georgia. Also browse our unique imports, garden art, and rustic dcor along with other custom designs.
7. Distinctive Kitchens, 29 S. Palafox PL., 438-4688: CANSTRUCTION SITE! Culinary Arts at it's finest. Pastry chef Sharon Tobin of Sweet Creations, sampling baked goods featured in upcoming DK Holiday Baking classes for adults and Children. Also featured local author Julie Demarko will be onsite for a book signing from her former restaurant Juliet's World Caf.
8. Dollarhide Music Center, 41 S. Palafox PL., 494-9898: Dollarhide's features the Pensacola Christian College String Quartet playing light classical selections in the Steinway recital area. In addition, a wide variety of original art by local artists will be on display and available for sale.
9. Don Alan's, 401 S. Palafox PL., 439-1762: Don Alan's will feature the unique glass painted artwork of local talent Beege Welborn. Come in and check out her hand painted glassware, fine art and accessories.
10. Eat!, 286 N. Palafox St., 469-1277: eat! will feature local art work by artist, Marzia Pendergast, Laura Saddy and Molly Bowen. Also, enjoy a live painting demonstration, wine tasting and a live local jazz group. This is the hot spot to be on the corner of Wright & Palafox!
11. Elebash Jewelry Company, 36 S. Palafox PL., 432-5136: We will be featuring the new designs of Simon G. This line is by one of the most sought after designers of bridal jewelry as well as all other types of diamond designs for jewelry. We are proud to represent Simon G. and will have a nice selection of his designs on hand for people to view.
12. Elegant Lady Boutique, 122 Palafox Pl. 332-7514: The Elegant Lady Boutique's featured artist is La Contessa's handcrafted jewelry. We also encourage you to take a look at our Sorreilli and Manana jewelry, fashion handbags, and unique rhinestone evening sets.
13. Ever'man Natural Foods Cooperative, 315 West Garden St. 438-0402:, CANSTRUCTION SITE! Ever'man's is proud to feature local PJC artist Mary Hood- still life/ representational, Vivian Spencer Visual Artist/ photography and Mark Hoffmark functional art/ pottery.
14. Fiore, 32 S. Palafox St., 469-1930: CANSTRUCTION SITE! Come visit Fiore and a spooktacular scene as spells are cast and we become the little shop of artistic floral arrangement HORRORS!
15. Florida Public Archeology Network (FPAN) 207 E. Main St. 595-0052: New Comer! FPAN welcomes the public to a sneak peak at the brand new exhibit, "Road Trip Through Florida Archeology" Artifacts from Shipwrecks, Native American Sited & Colonial settlements recovered throughout the state will be on display. Professional archeologist and members of the Pensacola Archeological Society will also be on hand to answer questions. Stop in and take a look back into our culture.
16. Gallery Coco, 222 N. Baylen St. 434-2626: Gallery Coco will present an Elements Art Forms exhibition of Lou-Mitchell Courtney's textural bas-reliefs, sea form sculptures, figurative works and paintings. A native North Carolinian, Lou-Mitchell moved to Pensacola in 1992.
17. Gallery Zarragossa, 215 E. Zarragossa St. 469-8060: New Comer! Gallery Zarragossa is packed with local and regional talent. Stop in and see the works of Jennifer Morgan, Eszra Tanner, Connie Hayes, Eric LaMarr, Lynne Fischer, Caroline Lindemann, Darleen Hunt, Mercedes Rodgers and Sara Mason. Pensacola Historic Museum, 115 East Zarragossa St. 433-1559: Join the Pensacola Historical Museum for a discussion on Pensacola hurricanes to coincide with our exhibit, Earth from Space: Eye of the Storm. This exhibit takes you through the cultural evolution of how storms have affected our area.

Quayside Gallery, 17 Zarragossa St., 455-2189: Fred Neveu, painter and member of Quayside will be on hand to paint, weather permitting, and talk to visitors about a mural he is painting on the east side of the gallery outside wall. The painting is related back to 1873 and will be a real showcase.

29. Seville Quarter, 130 Government St., 434-6211: Begin and End your Gallery Night at Seville Quarter. Seville Quarter's featured artist will be Katherine Quarles. Katherine is a local visual artist with over fifteen years of experience in commercial & fine art. Born in Pensacola she has traveled to the Far East, Europe, and throughout the northeastern United States. Fourteen years ago she returned to Pensacola, graduated with 2 associates' degrees from Pensacola Junior College and is a working professional in the commercial art industry. She has produced various accomplished fine art studies which are displayed in local and state art galleries. Recently Ms. Quarles has opened her own graphics studio and is also an adjunct instructor at the PJC Visual Arts department.

31. Suellen's Secret, 412 Zarragossa St., 429-8342: Suellen's Secret will feature local photographer Bryan Grund. Bryan is a native of Pensacola who enjoys roaming the area photographing whatever catches his eye. His interest range from the natural to the historical and spiritual to the whimsical.
32. Susan Campbell Jewelry, 208 South Alcaniz St., 434-8948: Susan Campbell will feature the Wendy Mink Trunk Show. This will be held October 1- 4 with a special opening reception during the October 3rd Gallery Night. Wendy Mink, a 20 year veteran of jewelry design, creates a fun and fashionable jewelry collection in her New York based studio
